Villa Park Birmingham Villa Park is in Birmingham, the second-largest city in the United Kingdom and sits within easy reach of the city centre. It is to the east of the city centre just a couple of stations or ten minutes by train from Birmingham New Street Station and with easy access to the M6 motorway.

The stadium is home to Aston Villa, seats 43,300 people and there are plans to increase seating to nearly 51,000 by 2012.

Local football fans are passionate about their team and Villa Park has hosted many important sporting events.

The club was formed in 1874 by cricketers from the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in the Aston area of Birmingham from where it got its name.

Villa Park has been the home of Aston Villa since moving from the old Perry Barr Ground in 1897, just a week after completing the historic League and Cup double. From the original capacity of 18,000, with just 5,500 seated, the stadium is now widely acknowledged as one of the premier grounds in the country.

Getting there

Aston is on the Birmingham cross-city line which is served by trains running about every 15 minutes. Get the train at Birmingham New Street - it will be timetabled as either running to Lichfield or Four Oaks. Aston is two stations outside the city centre - about ten minutes.

BUSES

A number of different bus services run from the city centre to Aston.
