The club was formed in 1874 by cricketers from the
Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in the Aston area of Birmingham from where
it got its name.
Villa Park has been the home of Aston Villa since
moving from the old Perry Barr Ground in 1897, just a week after
completing the historic League and Cup double. From the original
capacity of 18,000, with just 5,500 seated, the stadium is now widely
acknowledged as one of the premier grounds in the country.
